Hipnotic Summer Fest 2013 – An evening of music

3 Sep

Last Saturday (24/08/13) saw the epic conclusion to the Hipnotic Summer Fest in Hoxton Hall with a spectacular evening of music. A vast range of talent was on show, from drummers, to amazing singers, guitarists to saxophone players. The young talent were supported by Glastonbury performers, The Soothsayers. Soothsayer member Robin explained his reasons for partaking in the project. He told me that he believed that music is fundamental in creating a sense of society within a group of young people, so his aim was to create a reflection of society through music to teach young people about togetherness and teamwork. His aim was proven a success after I spoke to 15 year old Aaron who “thoroughly enjoyed the programme”, as he thought it gave him a life changing  experience that enabled him to continue perusing his dream to make it big in the music industry. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

All in all, I think it’s pretty safe to say that the event was a huge success, and a huge congratulations to all who took part! It was definitely a night to remember!Image

If you’re interested in dance and music, read this blog….

8 Jul

Before I introduce myself I thought it would be a good idea for you to check out a couple of the upcoming acts for Dance Nation, a free dance and music event on this weekend in Hackney that I’m going to be showcasing in this weeks blog:

Da Bratz (Boy Blue Entertainment)

Iva Lamkum

Who am I? My name is Atakan and I have a decent history with dance. I have performed in a variety of venues including lillian baylis as well as southbank and the place with Dance United which is a charity aimed at young people to encourage them into exploiting their hidden talents and is widely known and respected for their aims and methods of achievement. I have watched loads of performances and have taken part in several workshops in the past and have seen what the audience like and dislike in dance performances as well as workshops.

Through this I can confidently suggest that you as the reader should visit Dance Nation which is being presented by Barbican and is a highly interactive place where people of all ages and abilities can come along to take part in dance with live and entertaining music from all over the world. The event will be held in Gillett Square  and once the great sun sets everyone taking part will take the fun indoors to the award winning jazz venue The Vortex. Outside there’ll be a screening of the eye popping, jaw dropping, oh my god I think I just witnessed something better than subway toppings, incredible documentary called Baraka.

And you thought that was great? there’s also performances from the dancing demons Hackney dance troupes, with their impossible to copy moves, are you mind blown yet, you are? well I really don’t know what to say as international music legends will be performing quality music there too. What if I get thirsty and need a good drink? don’t worry because that’s covered too, beautiful locally brewed ales will be served in the square, so all you really have to do is stop reading this and prepare yourself for 13th of July with free admittance starting at 1:00 pm, don’t miss out on the greatest Saturday of your life.

If you enjoyed this blog well you’ll be happy to know I’m going to make more of these blogs and I can guaran-damn-tee you’ll have a smile on your face each time you read it.

Land of Kings – review

9 May

Great way to see some Hidden Gems, venues you maybe didn’t even know existed and artists you’ve never heard of. Land of kings makes it easy to explore one of London’s hippest areas. I headed down on the Friday to check it out.

What did we see : Galiano cocktails on the roof garden, Beat boxing in the vortex, awesome band space in Magnolia Banqueting Suite ( I always thought this was a weird wedding venue ). There was so much more going on in tents, basements and attics from literary, film, spoken word and DJ’ing.

Great value for money Would I recommend it? Hell yeah, this should be on ever music lovers calendar but also great if you just want to discover new venues and artists and have a vibey time. Look out for May bank holiday next year!

Land of Kings

3 May

We all know Dalston is a happening place but now you can sample the best of the area over the bank holiday weekend thanks to Land Of Kings.

The topline : The Dalston double-header returns // Friday 4th – Saturday 5th May 2012 // 15 venues // 2 nights // 1 wristband

The highlights : When else can you access the Dalston Roof Garden, The Vortex & Alibi all with new and interesting bands / acts.

Oh and check out the trendy crowd of 20 somethings

Good Music is Back!

23 Oct

With Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto coming out tomorrow, after three eyars of toil, tears and loving, I thought I’d write a review of one of the lead (and probably will prove to be most popular) songs from the whole album: ‘Princess of China’ ft. The one and Only Rihanna.

Enjoy!

‘Princess Rih Rih becomes a ‘Princess of China’ in Coldplay’s new album.’

The much anticipated collaboration between the princess of pop and the gods of rock has finally been leaked. The track features on Coldplay’s forthcoming fifth studio album, ‘Mylo Xyloto’ and has already been widely tipped to reach the meteoric heights of Rihanna and Eminem’s ‘Love the Way You Lie’. The track was uploaded onto YouTube and Soundcloud after it debuted on Dutch radio stations but has since been taken down by Coldplay’s record label EMI.

The band have claimed that this might possibly be their last studio album as they have been in the game for so long and newer players such as Rihanna, Adele and Justin Bieber are stepping up to the plate. With that in mind, Chris Martin tells us that the album took three years’ worth of toil and ‘is designed as a whole piece’. It tells the stories of boy and girl lead characters and Rihanna was at the top of their list to provide vocals for the female characters. It is hard to believe that legends like Coldplay have ever felt nervous about approaching an artist for a collaboration, but with Rihanna making her name as a global superstar, they can be forgiven for ‘being very Hugh Grant-like and spluttering about it’.

I heard the song last night and wasn’t too enamoured at first if I’m honest. I thought that Rih’s classically flat but hypnotic voice was too overpowered by the strong techno-buzz beats of the band’s legendary guitar riffs. I remember thinking that her voice sounded too auto-tuned. But I gave it another chance because I truly love and respect both Rihanna and Coldplay as artists and I really wanted to like their latest offering. Having listened to it on Soundcloud on RIHpeat (see what I did there?) for over two hours, I can now say that I really love the tune. It might definitely prove to be a grower but Coldplay have not been in the business for over fourteen years for nothing; and with Rihanna claiming ten number ones under her belt, with ‘We Found Love’ (her latest collaboration with DJ Calvin Harris) currently topping the British iTunes and singles charts, this song will surely prove to be a winner.

It is no wonder that Rihanna is famous for her many collaborations with successful male artists (Yes and um, Nicki Minaj). Over the six years of her mind blowing career, her voice has grown from strength to strength and she has transformed herself into a sexy, strong, powerful and influential figure in the industry – powerful and versatile enough to work with pop, rap, RnB and rock titans. Naturally, she can hold her own as ‘Loud’ has shown us, but it seems she is at her very best when part of a dynamic duo. As one fan puts it on Twitter: ‘[Rihanna] sings pop like pop, she sings reggae like reggae, she sings rock like rock!’ and is should also be noted that this lady keeps making histoRIH (I did it again!) as this is the first and possibly only feature in the long history of Coldplay albums. Chris of course collaborated with Kanye West in ‘Homecoming’ but that was a side project – a bloody good one at that!

But anyway, whilst we wait for ‘Mylo Xyloto’ to be released on October 24th and ‘Talk that Talk’ to be released on November 21st, we can sit back and enjoy the sultry vocals of Rihanna come together (and work really well) with the classic sound of Coldplay, as if there had never been anything more natural to have ever happened.

I reckon this deserves an unapologetic solid five stars from me.

Exciting new project coming your way soon…!

25 Mar

Hey there Team YH World!

I hope you are all well. It’s been a while indeed but I can assure you that all is well.  We have moved offices and have grown over the past couple of months. There is a larger team in the offices at all times now; thus enabling us to keep providing you with positive information and great opportunities!

I have been a busy bee (as always) as well. Check out what I have been up to in the other branches of my blog:

http://sianafashionstalker.wordpress.com/

Once you’ve had your fill of that, make sure you check the latest news and features on the YH! World site so that you don’t miss anything good 🙂

On a more exclusive note, by the end of this coming week, we at YH! will be launching our new project: ‘Young and Brilliant’ . This will be a celebration of young talents within the capital, who are working hard and making their way up the ladder of their ambition. With the help of a series of Video blogs, we will follow the journeys of a rapper; a journalist and photographer; a television presenter; a very talented make-up artist; a kick-boxer who is going places; a young entrepreneur; and a set of dancers who are currently touring the UK!

There is plenty of talent to be found in our city and despite all the negative media coverage and the difficult economic, political and social climate, young people are still ambitious.  And we at YH! want to be there at every step to celebrate with them when thy finally do reach their goals and get to wherever it is they strive to go.

So basically my lovelies, stay tuned!

Much love for now!

*salutes*

Siana. Over and out.
